Gracias por su visita. Continuando con nuestras publicaciones de vocabulario hoy les traemos palabras comunes que usamos cuando vamos al doctor. Algo que ocurre es que los alumnos se concentran demasiado en gramática pero no se dan cuenta que sin vocabulario no pueden transmitir ideas. Muchos quieren conversas pero no saben como hacerlo porque no entienden lo que le dicen o no saben como hacerse entender por falta de vocabulario.

Common Words: At the doctor

1.pain (dolor) – sustantivo

  • After playing football  I started to feel a sharp pain in my leg.
  • I had to take take an aspirin to relieve the pain.

2. ache (dolor continuo / mas agudo) – verbo / sustantivo

  • My head aches when I am stressed.
  • I have a terrible  backache because I was lifting weights.

Como verán, “ache” puede ser un verbo como en el primer ejemplo o también un sustantivo como en el segundo. Se pueden hacer diversas combinaciones como “earache, backache, toothache etc”

Sick is the less formal of the two words. It usually describes short-term diseases or ailments, like the flu, and is commonly used to refer to a feeling of nausea. Think of a sick child that stays home instead of going to school or a person who feels sick to their stomach after a roller coaster ride.

3. ill (enfermo) – adjetivoYoung woman wincing with pain in a consultation with her doctor - copyspace

“Ill” es mas formal y se refiere mas a enfermedades de largo plazo o mas agudas (aunque se puede usar en otros tipos de descripciones de enfermedades)

  • My father is seriously ill in the hospital
  • After I eat I felt very ill.

4. sick
“Sick” is menos formal y se refiere a la descripcion de enfermedades de corto plazo. En inglés británico cuando se usa “sick” uno se refiere a cuando uno quiere vomitar.

  • I feel very sick. I have to cancel my appointment.
  • Becarful. If you feel sick you need to rest for a while.

5. sore (dolorido / inflamado) – adjetivo
Adjetivo que significo adolorido (que pruduce dolor) y tambíen algo que esta inflamado. 

  • I have a sore throat and I can’t talk at all.
  • Look. My foot is still  sore after the football match.

6. illness (enfermedad) – adjetivo
Enfermedad mental o físico

  • The teacher didn’t go to work all month because of her illness.

7. disease (enfermedad) – sustantivo
Enfermedad causada por infeccion

  • My brother has a rare blood disease.
  • The government is planning to prevent the spread ofdisease.vocabulario-salud-ingles

8. heal (sanar) – verbo

  • I have to heal before I go back to work.
  • The pill you gave me healed my illness.

9. cure (curar) – verbo

  • It was a long process but the natural medicine finally cured him.

10. cure (cura) – sustantivo

En inglés “cure” puede ser usado como un verbo o sustantivo.

  • There is no cure for cancer.

11. treat (tratar) – verbo
Dar atención médica a un paciente.

  • The doctor has been treating me for 3 months..
  • He is the doctor who treats my son.

12. treatment (tratamiento) – noun

  • Doctors have recommended me a new treatments for my illness.
  •  My sister goes to the hospital to recieve treatment.

13. diagnose (diagnosticar) – verbo

  • The blood test is used to diagnose all kinds of diseases.
  • My uncle was diagnosed with a rare illness.

14. diagnosis (diagnóstico) – sustantivo
Descripción médica de la enfermedad

  • Please wait a lot for the exact diagnosis to know what medication you should take.

15. injury (lesión) – sustantivo
daño hecho al cuerpo

  • The football player had a serious injury.
  • There were only minor injuries in the crash.

16. injure (lesionar) – verbo
dañarse a si mismo o a alguien más físicamente – especialmente en un accidente

  • He injured his knee playing baseball.
  • Be carefull you injure yourself when you play with your cousins.

17. wound – (lesión) sustantivo
lesion pero con apertura de piel – muchas veces con sangre

  • Brad died from the wounds that he had received in the crash.
  • Look at her wound. She did it while she was cutting.

18. cut – (corte) sustantivo
Una lesión (wound) producido por algo filudo.

  • He had such a deep cut on his leg that he was taken to the hospital.

19. bruise – (moreton) sustantivo
golpe en la piel que es de color azul, morada o marron

  • He was covered in bruises after the fight he had.

20. scratch – (arañon) sustantivo

  • She had a long scratch on her arm becuase she was trying to bathe her cat.
