MODAL VERB MIGHT – MAY

Structure

Positive form

Subject + might/may+ infinitive + Complement

Examples:

– Juan might travel to Canada next March.
– They may visit you if they have time.
– The teacher might cancel classes today.

Negative form

Subject + might/may not + infinitive + Complement

Examples:

– Brian might not go out tonight because he is feeling a bit sick.
– I may not travel. There is bad weather.
– They might not stay. It is too cold

NOTE:

May and Might for possibility is not used in questions. We can use MAY in questions but it is used to ask PERMISSION

May I go to the bathroom? – Asking permission.

*** May and Might es poco utilizado en preguntas para posibilidad.

USE

We use MIGHT and MAY to talk about possibility in the present or future. It is used when you ARE NOT SURE about something in the future or to express UNCERTAINTY

Examples

a) What are you going to do at christmas?
b) I might/may go to visit my parents.

a) Will you ever get married?
b) I might/may get married this November.

Remember: When you are NOT SURE about something in the present or in the future USE MIGHT or MAY.

No confundan WILL con GOING TO y con MIGHT

COMPAREN  lo que ya hemos aprendido:

a) I am going to my parents house —– GOING TO es para planes.(LECCION 17 )
b) I will buy some beers —– es una decision que se toma en el momento con respecto al futuro (LECCION 36)
c) I might go to the party —— no estan seguros de ir a la fiesta
